The district has been hard at work over the summer preparing the buildings for the start of the school year. Some of the new changes we are excited to share are in regard to some safety upgrades to both the Elementary and the Primary Schools. The safety and security of our buildings and facilities are very important. The district has added new main entrance vestibules to each building where visitors will enter one set of doors and remain until access is granted by the office. Please see the following procedures to help you get acquainted with the new entry process:

Morning Entry Procedures

Elementary School-All students will enter the building through the designated new Main Entrance. There will be supervisors in the hallway to direct students to the cafeteria for breakfast or outside.

Primary Center- All students will enter through the back entrance of the school (Hornet Way/S’mores Ave.).

ALL STUDENTS in both Elementary and Primary Center: After 8:10 bell, all students should enter through the Main Entrance Vestibule and be signed in by an adult.

Visitor Procedures

All visitors will enter through the new Main Entrance of the building where the Vestibules are located.

All visitors here for a meeting will enter at the Main Entrance, check in, and wait for further instruction from the main office.

All parents/guardians coming to pick up their student, will enter through the Main Entrance. They will let the office know they are there to pick up their student. The parent/guardian will wait in the first set of doors located within the vestibule until their student is released.

Homework Pick up Procedures

ALL STUDENTS in both Elementary and Primary Center: Homework can be picked up in the homework pick up area located in the first set of doors at the Main Entrance Vestibules between the hours of 4:00 - 6:30 p.m.

Elementary Center Event Entrance (basketball games, volleyball games, band concerts, etc.)

Any events occurring in the Elementary main gym, the entrance that will be used is the Old Entrance located by the Principal's Office. At all other times, this entrance will remain locked and not available for entry into the building for visitors during the school day.

Selection Procedure Description

The National Junior Honor Society chapter of Freeburg Elementary School is a duly chartered and affiliated chapter of this prestigious national organization. Membership is open to those students who meet the required standards in five areas of evaluation: scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. Students are selected for membership by majority vote of a five-member principal-appointed faculty council, which bestows this honor upon qualified students on behalf of the faculty of our school.

Students in grades 7-8 are eligible for membership. For the scholarship criterion, a student must have a straight “A” average. Each year, those students who meet this criterion are invited to complete a Candidate Form that provides the faculty council with information regarding the candidate’s leadership and service.

To evaluate a candidate’s character, the faculty council uses two forms of input. First, school disciplinary records are reviewed. Second, members of the faculty are solicited for input regarding their professional reflections on a candidate’s service activities, character, and leadership.

Any solicited faculty input and all Candidate Forms are carefully reviewed by the faculty council to determine membership. A majority vote of the council is necessary for selection. Candidates are notified regarding selection or non-selection according to a predetermined schedule. All of the above criteria are voted on by a five- person faculty council that is appointed by the school principal. National Junior Honor Society Advisers are non-voting members in the selection process.

Following notification, a formal induction ceremony is held at the school to recognize all the newly selected members. Once inducted, new members are required to maintain the same level of performance (or better) in all four criteria that led to their selection.

Hello Parents:

Welcome to another FABULOUS school year! Everyone has been hard at work planning for the new year.  Please click HERE for the TRANSPORTATION PLAN for the new school year.  Please take a few minutes to review the plan.  There are a few minor changes from last year's plan.

I want to thank the Village, Police Department, Parents, Teachers, Staff, Board of Education, and the Admin team for many hours of planning, preparing, and reviewing past and current plans to make this happen.  As you all know, our school is on a busy road with limited space for access and parking.  Safety is always our first concern, and ensuring that procedures are revisited consistently is important to maintain safety.  In addition, having input from multiple stakeholders in the process has been invaluable.  I cannot thank everyone enough for sharing their concerns, feedback, and ideas about what has worked and has not worked.  It truly takes a team effort...

That said, please know it may take a few weeks to work out the kinks in this process.  If you have questions or concerns, please bring them to our attention.

See you soon.
